The Mule (2018) Review

A ninety-year-old horticulturist and Korean War veteran turns drug mule for a dangerous Mexican cartel.

Based on the true story of the late Leo Sharp also known as El Tata the outstanding cast include the likes of Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Peña and Andy García.

The Mule is wonderfully shot, directed and is no doubt one of Clint Eastwood's finest acting and directing moments. It's nice to see García back in a serious role. Fishburne, Peña and Cooper provide a solid backbone as the DEA agents closing in on Earl. In small but pivotal roles are Dianne Wiest as Earl's estranged ex-wife, Taissa Farmiga his granddaughter and real life daughter Alison Eastwood plays his on screen estranged daughter. As well the whole menacing cartel cast, notable are both Ignacio Serricchio and Clifton Collins Jr.

The on location shoot adds to poignant and charming realism of Earl's family drama and drug runs, Eastwood perfectly sells it as with each run he faces more danger while pushing his family further away.

Overall, a highly well made Eastwood outing with a few twists. Highly recommend.
