Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Duel Rematch

I believe writers missed a trick by not having the showdown on an incomplete Death Star in Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1. But it still could happen…

There’s no dialogue or events in Star Wars (1977) aka Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope to contradict a duel on the Death Star in Obi-Wan Kenobi or in Rogue One. In fact it would reenforce dialogue and events.

These are just a few reasons (there’s probably more) why the Obi-Wan duel should or could have taken place on the Death Star.

For example:

– It gives weight to Leia’s message in ANH:
“General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to present my father’s request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack, and I’m afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.”

– Obi-Wan played by Alec Guinness’ delivers this line with horror and realisation in Star Wars: “That’s no moon. It’s a space station.”
“Turn the ship around.”

If he’d fought on the space station previously, while he wouldn’t have known exactly what it was — until that moment adding an extra layer to his already excellent delivery, also an inkling of the gravitas and urgency of Leia’s message. He knows the danger Han, Luke and Chewie are in and how Alderaan was destroyed.

– There’s an opportunity to explain further on screen why the first Death Star is so slow to be completed and Galen Erso’s teams involvement. The incomplete space station may not have much significance at that time. Even work could be not taken place at the time.

– But finally; and more importantly it would give more meaning to the line by Darth Vader: “You should not have come back!” which he states during their confrontation on the Death Star in Star Wars.

However, with training from Qui-Gon’s force ghost there’s no reason why, like Vader hunted him, Obi-Wan couldn’t turn the tables and seek out Vader to stop him at some point as a subplot or final episode in season two. Maybe Qui-Gon knows of the danger ahead, and that is why Obi-Wan must face Vader again. And while the first duel on the Death Star (that could happen in season 2) may not have the desired out come, that knowing smile that Obi-Wan gives, seeing Leia and Luke reunited after A New Hope’s duel does.
