The Guardians set about to override code Rocket’s kill switch, but they find themselves defending new and old friends in a high stakes adventure.
The final instalment in the Guardians of the Galaxy film trilogy is an excellent and fitting conclusion. James Gunn’s writing and direction bring the familiar cast of characters, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel (voice of Groot) and Dave Bautista, back for another thrilling adventure. The film follows the Guardians as they embark on a mission to protect Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) from the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji).
While the effects driven movie is a satisfying finish to the trilogy, it’s hard to shake the feeling that the Marvel formula has run its course right down to the staple MCU mid-credit and post-credit scenes. The ensemble cast delivers outstanding performances, even if they seem as exhausted as the viewer. However, with 80s music, callbacks, cameos, returning characters including Stallone, Gunn manages to keep things as fresh as he can with his trademark humour, action-packed set pieces, and emotional depth.
Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a must-watch for fans of the franchise, and it delivers a poignant but appropriate ending to the current Guardians’ story.
