The Little Things (2021) Review

Former homicide detective Joe joins forces with his replacement to stop a serial killer who's terrorising Los Angeles in 1990.

With stellar performances all-round, The Little Things plays on the recurrent themes and motifs staple with cop serial killer thrillers. Director/writer John Lee Hancock offers layered characters and a few jaw dropping twists as they track down a suspect.

The play against expectations thankfully make this stand out from many others of the genre. Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto elevate the script along with a great supporting cast, notably Chris Bauer.

The creepy echoes of Joel's past has elements of Bringing Out the Dead (1999) coupled with flashbacks and the 90s setting keeps this interesting. It may not have the visual flair of Seven (1995) but Hancock delivers much of the prowess of The Silence of the Lambs (1991).

With and excellent score, plenty of atmosphere and jarring turn of events, if you like the aforementioned films, you'll no doubt enjoy this.
