Bad Boys for Life (2020) Review

Isabel Aretas, widow of cartel kingpin Benito and her son Armando go about recovering a stash of money while assassinating the people responsible for Bentio's death.

From the opening you know you're in good hands with directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi who offer a breathtaking throw away 'car chase'. Writers Peter Craig and Joe Carnahan offer one liners, and aging over the hill dynamics echoing Lethal Weapon 4 and handful baddies straight out of Die Hard.

It's a great third instalment which doesn't compromise on quality. Both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprise their and are on fine form. Even Michael Bay cameos. There's a great score from Lorne Balfe that backdrops the well staged slick action and drama. Lawrence is good but Smith shines as charming hardened cop Mike Lowrey.

Even though the bad guys are well fleshed out and it showcases updates in surveillance and policing it adds nothing new to the genre, that said, if you like the characters, surely that’s why you're here? You're in for a great ride.

All in all it's well made entertaining harmless action.
