Pay the Ghost (2015) Review

When a boy is abducted at Halloween parade a father and mother must unravel a terrifying supernatural mystery to get him back.

Director Uli Edel's offering a fine looking film and benefits from a notable location shoot. In a sea of Nicolas Cage films Pay the Ghost is one of his better produced productions and is a hidden gem along side likes of Color Out of Space. Cage is on top acting form here.

With a few outlandish moments the movie works better when it's played low key. It's a pity some setups were not done a little more subtle. From banshees to clairvoyants, visions possessions and more Tim Lebbon's story and Dan Screenplay throws in a bagful of supernatural elements and it is at times too on the nose with exposition. That's said, the main and supporting cast are first rate given the hokey subject matter.

Overall, as a slower burning super natural yarn Pay the Ghost will far exceed expectations.
