Suicide Squad (2021) Review

The government sends the most dangerous supervillains in the world on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Col. Rick Flag to make the squad behave.

James Gunn's offering is an improvement over its predecessor in terms of look, effects and character interaction. It also has plenty of surprise deaths; and the story is less predictable. Gunn as a writer also plays on on the tropes of the genre. With a great accompanying soundtrack, it's gory, humorous and fast-paced, the bold Starfish inclusion earns DC fan praise having been so memorable in the comics.

The cast shine, there's too many to mention, Idris Elba is particularly notable as Bloodshot. Joel Kinnaman is much more at home this time around. Jai Courtney's character is serving. Director/actor Taika Waititi cameos. Margot Robbie knocks Harley Quinn out of the park. John Cena and Elba's characters deliver some great exchanges. Sylvester Stallone's voice of King Shark is used sparingly but effective. And who can forget Julio Cesar Ruiz as Milton?

In a sea of comic book movies, this one is highly recommend.
