Black Roses (1988) Review

A do-good town is throw in a tizz and divided when a Rock band is due to throw a gig there. However, there concerns may have merit.

Director John Fasano's offering no doubt takes its title from Black Sabbath and Guns n Roses and is in the vein of Trick or Treat (1986), Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare (1987), Hard Rock Zombies (1985) and Shock 'Em Dead (1991) to name a few.

The effects are of the time and offer a little creep factor here and there. Aside from the interesting opening show, there's a little nudity, ugly demons faces, a few deaths as the adults are ploddingly picked off one-by-one, but very little happens until the last the clunky, special make-up effects driven twenty minutes. The soundtrack rock tracks are pretty well done but Elliot Solomon's music is a little stock like.

Overall, that 80s vibe, nostalgia (books, toys clothes props) moustaches, big hair, mullets, perms and crimped hair couple with the end credit rock music is probably the only reason to watch.
