Spoilers!
While the Pyke Syndicate tighten their grip on Tatooine new friendships are forged.
While like the previous episode it’s has like to do with Boba Fett, director Dave Dave Filoni delivers a historic episode. The production values are high, that said it’s a bright episode which doesn’t hide imperfections.
Written again by Jon Favreau it opens with the return of excellent Timothy Olyphant’s Cobb Vanth taking out Pyke Syndicate spice runners. Favreau goes out of his way to impress as the highlight here is the return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker! Yes really, the special effects are outstanding and a vast improvement on the Mandalorian finale (they’re almost there, nearly) with some unquestionable mind blowing seamless moments of Mark Hamill’s signature character. It’s uncanny.
Grogu returns along with Ahsoka Tano (nonchalant Rosario Dawson), lovable R2D2 and Mando. It connects to the sequel trilogy, while also giving (newly filmed) flashbacks of the prequels and order 66. The second acts main goal is to expand Luke Skywalker’s character, use of a training remote, his training techniques, what Yoda taught him and general Star Wars world building, and it does that tenfold. His interaction with Ahsoka offers more Skywalker dynamics with the mention of Akin. In the third act Djarin (memorable Pedro Pascal) is reunited with Vanth. Actors W. Earl Brown and Jennifer Beals also appear under make-up. Favreau and Filoni don’t stop there, the icing on the cake for diehard Star Wars fans is the live action debut of Cad Bane.
Overall, while it has little to do with the Boba Fett character, it’s a terrific mind blowing Star Wars episode.
